    The EN 20471 standard is a European standard that specifies the requirements for high-visibility clothing. It is primarily aimed at ensuring the safety of workers exposed to hazardous environments. This standard outlines the design, performance, and test methods for garments that enhance visibility in various conditions, such as low light or poor weather.

    Critical aspects of the EN 20471 standard include:

    1. Visibility Requirements: Garments must have a minimum area of fluorescent background material and retroreflective strips to ensure the wearer can be seen from a distance.
    2. Categories of High-Visibility Clothing: The standard divides clothing into different classes (Class 1, 2, and 3), with Class 3 offering the highest level of visibility, suitable for use in very high-risk situations.
    3. Material Performance: The fabrics used must meet specific durability, colorfastness, and retroreflectivity criteria.
    4. Testing Methods: It outlines the testing procedures to evaluate the performance of the materials used in high-visibility clothing.

    This standard is commonly applied in industries such as construction, roadwork, and emergency services, where visibility is critical for safety.

    The EN 343 standard is a European standard that specifies the requirements for protective clothing against rain and foul weather. It is primarily designed for clothing worn in wet and inclement conditions, ensuring that the wearer remains dry and comfortable. Here are some critical points about EN 343:

    Performance Requirements: EN 343 defines the performance criteria for materials used in protective clothing, focusing on waterproofness and breathability.

    Classification: The standard classifies garments into different categories based on their levels of water resistance and breathability, helping users select appropriate gear for various environmental conditions.

    Testing Methods: It outlines specific testing methods to evaluate the materials' waterproofness (measured in mm of water column) and breathability (measured in g/m²/24h).

    Durability: The standard also addresses the materials' durability, ensuring that the protective clothing can withstand wear and tear while maintaining its waterproof and breathable properties.

    Applications: EN 343 is relevant for many industries, including construction, agriculture, emergency services, and any outdoor work where exposure to wet weather is a concern.

    Overall, garments that meet the EN 343 standard provide essential protection for individuals working in challenging weather conditions, ensuring safety and comfort.

    The EN 343 standard classifies protective clothing for waterproofing and breathability based on two key performance indicators: waterproofness and breathability. The specific classifications are as follows:
    Waterproofness Levels:
    Class 1: Water column height above 8,000 Pa pre-treatment.
    Class 2: Water column height above 8,000 Pa after treatment.
    Class 3: Water column height above 13,000 Pa after treatment.
    Class 4: Water column height above 20,000 Pa after treatment.
    Breathability Levels:
    Class 1: Breathability Ret>40.
    Class 2: Breathability 25<Ret<=40.
    Class 3: Breathability 15<Ret<=25
    Class 4: Breathability Ret<=15
    Garment Categories
    EN 343 provides various categories of clothing suitable for different work environments and climatic conditions based on different combinations of waterproofness and breathability. This allows users to select appropriate protective clothing based on specific work requirements and environments.
    Applications
    This classification applies to various industries, including construction, agriculture, emergency services, and any field requiring work in adverse weather conditions.

    Waterproof fabric is designed to prevent water from penetrating through it. This type of fabric typically has a special coating or is made from materials that repel water. Common examples include:

    1, TPU or PU Membrane Bonded: A well-known waterproof and breathable fabric often used in outdoor clothing.
    Nylon or Polyester with a Waterproof Coating: These fabrics can be treated with a durable water repellent (DWR) finish to enhance their water resistance.

    2, PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride): This synthetic plastic is often used for rain gear and tarps, providing excellent waterproofing.
    Rubberized Fabrics: Used in items like raincoats, these fabrics have a layer of rubber to block water.
    3, PU Coating: A waterproof PU (polyurethane) coating is a protective layer applied to fabrics to make them water-resistant or fully waterproof. PU coatings are commonly used on fabrics for outdoor gear, tents, and rainwear.
    4, Sealed Seams: Many waterproof garments use taped or sealed seams to prevent water from seeping through stitching.
    Waterproof fabrics are often used in outdoor gear, sportswear, and various applications where moisture protection is essential.

    Fabric water resistance often tested by spary test, grade 1-5 (score 0-100). Grade 5 (score 100) is the best, regular water resistance fabric spary test is from grade 3 (score 80) to 5 (score 100).

    The water pressure of fabric, often measured in millimeters (mm), indicates how much water pressure a fabric can withstand before it begins to leak. This measurement is commonly referred to as the "water column" rating. Here’s a general breakdown:

    0–1,000 mm: Water-resistant fabrics that can withstand light rain or moisture but are not fully waterproof.
    1,000–5,000 mm: Suitable for moderate rain and light outdoor use; often used in jackets and gear for less intense conditions.
    5,000–10,000 mm: Good for heavy rain and prolonged exposure; ideal for more demanding outdoor activities.
    10,000 mm and above: Designed for extreme conditions; often used in high-performance outdoor gear such as mountaineering or extreme weather gear.
    The higher the water column rating, the more pressure the fabric can handle before moisture penetrates. However, breathability and comfort are also important factors to consider, especially for active wear.
